New School Politics is a political blog written by a number of opinionated high school students. Our cast provides a strong clash of political ideologies that will come to the forefront in their blogging. We hope to intellectually stimulate our readers with the right combination of political news and opinions. You can read more about each of us briefly below. Thanks for reading!

Zach (Co-Founder/Editor) is the liberal in the group. All content tagged as “Liberal Content” is written by him. He likes to consider himself a social democrat and occasionally sides with Republicans on fiscal issues. Zach also blogs for Rev2.org and serves as their Director of Content Development, managing public relations and advertising. He is responsible for the majority of the design and technology decisions at New School Politics.

Eftychis (Co-Founder) is the conservative. Similar to Zach’s tag, Efty is responsible for all posts tagged as “Conservative Content.” Efty’s political views also waver but he most often sides with conservatives on fiscal and military issues.

Ryan (Co-Founder) is, like his co-founders, a member of the 2008 class at Greenwich High School in Greenwich, CT. He plays baseball, debates, and edits the school newspaper. More importantly, Ryan is a Student of Objectivism and writes all of the content tagged “Objectivist content“. His view point holds fast to the philosophy conceptualized by Ayn Rand (the author of thematic novels The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged) and is also influenced by other advocates of limited government. Accordingly, all of Ryan’s blogging will be concentrated on the concept of individual liberty in the face of whatever challenges exist to its advancement in our world.

Charlotte (Editor) was brought on-board the New School to enhance the grammatical quality of its posts by editing the flow of sentences as well as fixing spelling errors.

Elizabeth (Author) writes with a Libertarian bent, but, like Ryan, believes in the principles of Objectivism. A self professed music elitist, Elizabeth has also been labeled (at various times) a science geek, a hippie, and a book worm.

Paul (Author) can be described as a liberal social democrat. On the political spectrum, however, he pins himself as a left-leaning centrist. Paul blogs bilingually (both in English and French) out of Vancouver, Canada. He spends most of his time perusing the internet, catching up on TV shows, debating his views with others, and pondering life and the universe.

George (Author), part of the ‘08 class at Greenwich HS, is a self-described rationalist and pragmatist, notoriously opposing dogmatic thought of any kind. He thus finds any and all political doctrine to be far too limiting. As a scientist, George considers knowledge power and beliefs irrelevant–and has none. He writes with what can only be described as a deep skepticism of the world around him. As frequently amused as embittered by the incompetencies and misjudgments of those in power, George’s skepticism often manifests itself as insidious satire.

Chou (Author), part of the ‘08 class at GHS, does have a first name but is not willing to name it, and simply goes by “Chou.” Politically, he claims to be advocating a “libertarian police state” and, like George, takes pride in making outlandish statements from time to time.Iacopo (Author), is a moderate voice at the New School, with a particular proclivity towards history and international issues.

Frank (Author), a student at GHS, writes from a conservative/realist viewpoint on foreign policy and a libertarian one on domestic issues.

Chas (Author), a member of the Class of 2011 at Tufts University, studies international relations and desires to be a policy guru dealing with foreign affairs in DC somewhere down the line. A staunch conservative, Chas is also a US and world history enthusiast. Chas was also Connecticut’s Boys Nation Delegate in 2006.

Ben (Author) is a moderate liberal who runs the Greenwich High School student newspaper, The Beak. He is looking for a presidential candidate who enjoys salsa dancing, long walks on the beach, and foreign policy discussions over candle-lit surf-and-turf at Red Lobster.

We’re always looking for new writers. If you’d like to write with us, please send us an e-mail.

conservative+liberal+objectivist=liberal ironist: A liberal ironist is a one who thinks that cruelty is the worst thing we do, wishing that the humiliation of human beings by other human beings would be ceased not by decree but by imagination, the ability to see strange people as fellow sufferers.

This blog is a nifty idea. It’s in line with a project I was involved in when I was in college back in the early 60s. We founded a newspaper, called “Contrast,” which featured a variety of philosophical and political viewpoints, with editors of diverse convictions. Nice to see the some bloggers believe in the spirit of liberal education!!! Congratulations.

People will suffer throughout history; it’s just a fact.
While you state that freedom rules, there will always be individuals with more power than others.

Liberty is so terribly boring, the very idea of it

econ | 28 01 2008

Liberty is so terribly boring, the very idea of it is vulgar and vaguely offensive to my aristocratic sensibilities. Where is the glory or romance in limited government (I’m looking at you Ryan)? Can’t any of you appreciate good old fashioned imperialism? Or at the very least monarchy? Seriously, nature tends towards greater entropy and chaos, don’t you see it as our duty as sentient beings to combat chaos and disorder? Rule of law is of paramount importance as it is most efficient in furthering the glory of the human race. It is really all about the hive mind.
